Hablamos con Vera Revive, flamante banda proveniente de Phoenix, Arizona de los Estados Unidos, por el lanzamiento de su primera canción y videoclip titulado «What It Means To Forgive».
RC- ¿Cómo fue el proceso compositivo de «What It Means To Forgive?
VR- James, nuestro guitarrista, trabajo muy arduamente en la composición de «What It Means To Forgive». La mayoría de las canciones son completadas de forma rápida pero esta canción tenía algo increíblemente especial y todos la laburamos de una manera en la que nos sentimos satisfechos y seguros de que iba a sonar tan genial como lo imaginábamos.
RC- ¿Cuál es el mensaje que les gustaría difundir con esta canción y cuáles son sus sentimientos respecto a la letra?
VR- A veces hay que tomar decisiones difíciles que sabés que son las correctas, en pos de progresar; un paso atrás, pero dos pasos adelante. La letra es una representación satisfactoria de eso. Son un montón de diferentes escenarios de mi vida, formando una canción. Creemos que las letras son importantes para toda canción que hagamos y escritas de una manera que esperamos que muchos puedan sentirse identificados.
RC- ¿Cómo fue la experiencia de filmar el video del single?
VR- El videoclip fue una locura, una excelente experiencia. Mirar tanto trabajo fluir y puesto en algo que nos apasiona tanto y ver como rinde sus frutos, es muy gratificante. Todas las personas que formaron parte y que colaboran con nosotros son extremadamente profesionales y entienden las cosas que queremos retratar así nuestra visión puede tomar vida.
RC- ¿Cómo dieron con el nombre de la banda y cómo fue la creación de Vera Revive?
VR- El nombre de la banda lo trajeron James, el guitarrista, y John, nuestro cantante, después de pasarse varios nombres entre nosotros. Amamos la palabra «Revive» y creíamos que tenía una base muy fuerte para la temática y estética que queríamos a la hora de crear la banda. El nombre «Vera» apareció, no solo como un buen comienzo para «Revive», sino que también descubrimos varios significados interesantes que pensamos que le agregaba cierta esencia para poder terminar de conectar de la mejor manera.
Después de mudarse de New York a Arizona, James y John se juntaron con Riley, baterista, y Serg, bajista, y así poder lanzar nuestra canción debut en abril de este año.
RC- ¿Cuál es su opinión respecto a la escena hardcore melódica y post hardcore de Phoenix? ¿Cuáles bandas recomendarían de su ciudad?
VR- Hay una gran variedad de bandas en la escena de metal en Phoenix, sobre todo de deathcore, metalcore y otros géneros más pesados. Respecto al hardcore o al post melodic hardcore, no hay muchas para lo que se refiere en nuestra area. Amamos y apoyamos a todas las bandas del valle y les deseamos lo mejor a cada una de ellas.
Nos gustaría recomendar a Smile On The Sinner, hacen música increíble y trabajan muy duro en ello. Pueden chequear y escuchar su pasión a través de su música y apoyarlos en un 100%.
RC- ¿Conocen bandas de Argentina o Sudamérica?
VR- Debo admitir que por ahora no conocemos ninguna, pero pueden pasarnos y enviarnos material de allá. ¡Nos encantaría conocer!
– ¿Cuáles son sus planes para el resto del año?
Si todo sale bien, tenemos muchísimo más aún por lanzar hasta fin de año y de cara al 2021. Desde más videoclips, el EP, lo que sea. Queremos activar a toda costa.
– ¿De qué manera les afectó esta situación mundial? ¿Cuáles son sus pensamientos acerca de los extraños tiempos que estamos viviendo?
Cuando recién sacamos el tema en abril de este año, no teníamos ni la menor idea de lo malo que iba a ser este COVID-19. Sentimos mucho pesar por todos los artistas que están perdiendo sus ingresos por este virus, a lo mismo que tantos recintos de música que se vieron forcados a cerrar sus puertas. Nos hubiera encantado tocar en algunos shows pero sabemos que tenemos que ser pacientes.

– How was the composition process of «What It Means To Forgive»?
James (Guitar) worked heavily on the composition process on ‘What It Means to Forgive’. Most songs can be completed fairly quickly but this song was incredibly special and we all worked hard to make sure it came out as great as we knew it could be.
– Which message would you like to spread with that song and which are your feelings about the lyrics?
Sometimes you have to make tough decisions that you know are right, in order to progress; One step back two steps forward.
The lyrics are a fulfilling representation of that. It’s a lot of different scenarios from my life, formed into one song. We feel the lyrics are importaint to every song we do and written in a way in that hopefully everyone can relate to.
– How was the experience of filming the video of the song?
The music video was an excellent experience. Watching all the work put into something you’re passionate about and seeing it come to fruition, it’s a rewarding experience. Everyone we work with is always professional, and they understand the things we want to portray so our vision can come to life.
– How did you come up with the name of the band? And how was the creation of Vera Revive?
The name of the band came to James (Guitar) and John (Vocals) after throwing different names at each other.
We loved the word «Revive» and we felt that was a strong basis on what theme and imagery we wanted to create with the band.
The name «Vera» came into play not only as a nice ring to Revive but we found the name had some particular interesting meanings with it that we thought added to the overall name and ended up fitting really well.
Pt II – After moving from New York to Arizona, James & John added Riley (Drummer) and Serg (Bass) and released our debut song ‘What It Means to Forgive’ in April 2020.
– How do you see the post hardcore / melodic hardcore scene in Phoenix? Which bands would you recommend from your town?
There is a large metal scene in Phoenix, primarily consisting of bands in the Deathcore, Metalcore & heavier genres. As far as the hardcore / post melodic hardcore scene goes, there really aren’t a whole lot of bands for the size of the area.
We love and support all the bands in the valley though and we hope nothing but the best for all of them.
We would recommend Smile On The Sinner. They make incredible music and have really worked hard to become who they are. You can hear the passion through their music and you should 100% check them out.
– Do you know any bands from Argentina or South America?
I don’t believe we currently know any bands from Argentina / South America but if you have any suggestions, we’d love to check them out!
– Which are your plans for the rest of the year?
If everything goes well, we still have lots more to release through the end of year and into 2021. Music Video(s), EP, you name it. We are hitting the ground running.
– In which way has this worldwide situation has affected you? Which are your thoughts about this strange times we are living?
When we first debuted in April 2020, we had no idea that COVID-19 would be as bad as it was. We feel terrible for all of the artists that are losing income to this virus, as well as music venues who were forced to close their doors. We would have loved to be playing shows by the end of 2020, but now that will have to wait for awhile.
